Summary of Major Achievements over the past 18 years

 

1990 - 2000

 

  • A small group of thoughtful citizens came together and called themselves Bay & Basin Community Resources Incorporated. Together they started planning innovative ideas to meet the enormous gap between the needs in the community and the lack of appropriate services. Over the coming year the group lobbied for funds to provide extra services and on Saturday 1st June, 1991 they saw their tireless efforts come to fruition when the Mayor of Shoalhaven, Max Atkins officially opened the Sanctuary Point Youth & Community Centre and Preschool.
  • This achievement set a strong foundation for the Committee to continue building and strengthening community services in the Bay & Basin and wider Shoalhaven region over the next ten years.
  • BBCRI were successful in a tender to manage the Home and Community Care respite day-care program in 1990. The organisation's many scrap books are filled with newspaper cuttings of community development projects that committee members and staff have supported and lobbied all levels of government.
  • The official opening of Sanctuary Point Youth & Community Centre
  • Public Basketball and Skate Bowl Facility in Francis Ryan Reserve at Sanctuary Point opened.
  • Launch of Shoalhaven Neighbour Aid service.
  • Premier's Community Award presented to Shoalhaven Neighbour Aid in recognition of outstanding service to community and NSW.

 

 

2001 - 2008

 

  • Official opening of the BBCRI Aged Care Premises, the Bay & Basin Leisure Centre, and the BBCRI After School Hours and Vacation Care Centre.
  • Presented with an ex Olympic Mercedes Benz bus for HACC Services.
  • Nominated under the Shoalhaven Business Awards in the Community Services Category held at Worrigee House.
  • Bay & Basin 92.7 FM Community Radio station was launched and application was made for a permanent license, which was successful.
  • Successful completion of Radio Project through Area Assistance Scheme.
  • Premier's Community Award presented to BBCRI in recognition of outstanding service to the community and NSW.
  • BBCRI developed an organisational business plan, which was submitted to Shoalhaven City Council and other key stakeholders to address the growing needs in the community.
  • Seaside Tours - mobile respite care.
  • The successful funding and completion of the Bay & Basin Community Social Plan.
  • Launch of new Community Projects including HACC, National Respite for Carers Program, Community Aged Care Packages and Work for the Dole.
  • Expansion of Breakfast Club through community support.
  • Partnerships with Tafe, Wesley Employment and local RSL groups.
  • Successful Veteran's Affairs submission for and commencement of 'The Men's Shed Project'.
  • Launching of the Gambling Awareness CD produced by 92.7 BBFM.
  • Expansion the Men's Shed Project.
  • Expansion of the Breakfast Club program through community support.
  • Launch of the Gambling Awareness CD produced by 92.7 BBFM's Project Manager.
  • Success of the Transport Working Party gaining funding for a pilot project - the inter-village bus service.
  • Opening of the Adult Day Respite extensions.
  • The implementation of another NRCP project for Working Carers in the Shoalhaven.
  • The development of a new Cottage Style Respite Program in partnership with the Illawarra Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre. Funding for this program was also gained through NRCP.
  • Successful tender process of the new Facilitated Discharge Program and the Transitional Care Program with the South Eastern Sydney & Illawarra Health Service.
  • The Men's Shed Project expanded, and introduced the Great Mates Project, offered many benefits to other key stakeholders.
  • The gaining of allocated places to develop an Outside School Hours program in Sanctuary Point in partnership with Sanctuary Point Public School.
  • Purchase of properties at 128 Macleans Point Road & 205 Kerry Street, Sanctuary Point.
  • The successful negotiations and consequently the donation by Council of two blocks of land in Sanctuary Point to construct the 'South Coast Community Centre'.
  • The implementation of the BBCRI OS 'Community Care' and 'Budget Manager' operating system, our very own user friendly in-house designed software package.
  • Increase in annual budget income from $1,551,514 (05/06) to $2,037,294 (06/07).
  • Increase in volunteer recruitment totalling approximately 185 volunteer positions filled, totalling around 2300 hours per year of support offered by volunteers.
  • Lease and modifications of outreach office at the John Bull Centre in Bomaderry to offer additional easy access for staff and carers.
  • Purchase of properties at 16 & 18 Sanctuary Point Road, Sanctuary Point. This venue is currently being rented and accommodates the Men's Shed, Work for the Dole and Respite projects.
  • The successful negotiations with DADHC to consolidate all BBCRI HACC services into a Multi Service Outlet.
  • National Respite for Carers Project enhanced by gaining additional funding for the 'Bayrest' project which will be extended into the Illawarra Region in 2006/07 in partnership with Warrigal Care.
  • Gaining of $26,573 through Community Development and Support Expenditure (CDSE) Scheme to enhance our Youth, Men's Shed and Out of School Hours Care services.
  • Successful Quality Assurance and Accreditation of the BBCRI Out of School Care Service in Vincentia and Sanctuary Point.
  • Successful completion of the Intergrated Monitoring Framework which demonstrates the commitment of BBCRI in meeting all of the National HACC Standards.
  • The National Respite for Carers and Community Aged Care Programs completed their Quality Assurance process, receiving a high standard of care.
  • Successful partnership with TAFE, Illawarra Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre, South Eastern Sydney Illawarra NSW Health, Wesley Employment, Shoalhaven City Council, South East Community College and Local Clubs.
  • Support for staff in their professional development through scholarships and training funds to provide study opportunities in Human Resources, Teaching, Welfare, Administration, Radio Broadcasting, Management and Aged Care studies.
  • Implementation of the National Respite for Carers Program into the Illawarra.
