Caring for the Carer

If you are caring for a person over the age of 65 then the information on this page may interest you.

We understand and have experienced the many challenges that people who are in a caring role face each day.

BBCRI staff are trained to work together with carers to design a program that caters to their individual lifestyle and promotes wellbeing for themselves and the person they care for.

Some people may not be aware or feel that they are a "carer", so often they don't seek any assistance or support until their health and wellbeing deteriorates. This is often due to the fact that in their role as wife, daugher, son, relative, neighbour or close friend they feel that caring is already part of this existing role and the extra care they provide is expected.

A Carer Educator will travel around the Illawarra region promoting the role of Carers. The focus will be on finding carers who are looking after a person over 65 years of age who is frail, may have dementia, physical impairment such as loss of mobility or some other health issue.

For more information, please contact Cath at the Bomaderry Outreach Office (BOO).

This new service will provide an opportunity for people to discuss their individual situation in a safe, supportive and confidential environment. There will be a number of special events planned which will be aimed at encouraging new and existing carers to attend functions which offer relaxation, wellbeing activities, information and referral to support services. Individual counselling sessions will be offered to carers to help them balance their own health, happiness and other commitments while maintaining their caring role.
