Working Carer Respite Initiative

The Working Carer Respite Initiative aims to provide support for people who are working or training to gain employment and are caring for an elderly relative, friend or neighbour who is aged 65 years or over (50 years and over for Indigenous care recipients). The care recipient does not have to be living with the person providing care.

Support provided includes, but is not limited to, in-home respite and social support, lunchtime visits to provide medication supervision, meal preparation, outings including social support, appointments or shopping, and one on one support at centre based day respite.

Service is available to clients living in the North, Central and Southern Shoalhaven areas.

Anyone can refer a carer to this service.

The Centre Based Respite Group is held on a Wednesday from 10am-2pm at the North Nowra Community Centre and includes morning tea and lunch, games, activities and social support. Transport can be arranged via Shoalhaven Community Transport.

All field staff providing support have a Certificate lll in Aged Care and are Commonwealth Police checked.

Funding for this program is through the National Respite for Carers Program.

This program is a Australian Government initiative.
