Bayrest

Bayrest aims to provide support for people who are caring for a person with a diagnosis of dementia and presenting with challenging behaviours.

Challenging behaviours can include wandering, aggression (both verbal and physical), shadowing (following the carer wherever they go), repetitive speech or behaviour, restlessness in the afternoon (sundowning), or restlessness at night thus disrupting the carer's sleep.

Support provided includes in-home respite, outings, one on one support at centre based day respite, medication supervision, personal care (where client is incontinent), and emergency or overnight in-home respite.

Services are available to clients living in the Northern, Central and Southern Shoalhaven areas.

Anyone can refer a carer to this service.

Centre Based Day Respite will be operating in the Central Shoalhaven area and a Mobile Respite Service will be operating in the Northern Shoalhaven area. These services will provide respite for carers of people with dementia who 'sundown'.

All field staff providing support have Certificate lll in Aged Care and are Commonwealth Police checked.

Funding for this program is through the National Respite for Carers Program.

This program is an Australian Government initiative.
